THE OPENING - The 34th FEST was opened last night with Jim Jarmush's Broken Flowers. The ceremony was attended by Ana Karina, the former French film diva. She was introduced to the public by the Chairman of the Council of FEST, Director Srdjan Golubovic, with the following words: ”FEST is one of the rare events resisting the backwardness and claustrophobia of this milieu and reminding us each year that we are, in spite of everything, living in a big city.” The honor to open the 34 th FEST went to our famed director Emir Kusturica... GRBAVICA TWICE - Fifteen years after the Berlinale, the spectators on FEST will have the opportunity to see this year's Golden Bear, the film Grbavica of Bosnian author Jasmina Zbanic. ANA KARINA GUEST OF FEST - The great and esteemed star of French and European film Ana Karina shall be the guest of this year's FEST for five days; she will attend the ceremonial opening of the Festival on February 24th at 19.30h in the Great Hall of the Sava Center. SUPRISE FILM - We wish to inform the media and the audience of the upcoming FEST that in the hours set out for our “Surprise Film” of FEST 06 on Saturday, March 4 th at 19.30h in Sava Center, they will have the opportunity to see the US-German film “Crash” of director and script writer Paul Haggis, starring Sandra Bullock and Matt Dillon. “Crash” has been nominated six times for the Oscar – for Best Film of the Year, Best Directing, Best Scenario, Best Supporting Male Role, Best Music and Best Film Editing!
TICKETS ARE SELLING GREAT - In the first two days they have been put into sale, ten thousand tickets for FEST 06 have been sold, which anticipates that the attendance this year's edition of our most prestigious festival will much greater than last year. For the time being, there remain enough tickets for projections in all theaters.
DECISION ON FILM PROJECTS – TO PARTICIPANTS OF THE PITCHING ON “B2B” - On the 9 th session held on February 2, 2006 the Council of FEST has adopted a decision on selecting ten projects that will be presented on the Pitching, in the framework of a separate program focus of the 34 th FEST: “B2B – Europe out of Europe”, which will be held the final weekend... Domestic films on FEST - Just like last year's FEST, this year's 34th Belgrade International Festival shall be to a large extent dedicated to premieres of new domestic films, co-productions of our film industry with films of Serbian authors in the Diaspora.
