In ZAVET, the grandfather, his grandson and Bosa, the village teacher the school of whom has been closed, are the only inhabitants in the deserted village at the top of the mountain. The grandfather, who is feeling he is nearing his end, sends his grandson Cane to the closest city to sell their only cow, buy an icon for the church he wants to renovate, find a wife and bring back home a memory. The grandson goes to town for the first time. There he meets Jasna, a decent city girl living with her mother, who is working in the kindergarten as a regular job, while at night she is working in a brothel. The latter is controlled by Marko, who “owns” much of the city. Cane meets two engaging city hobos who want to help him draw Jasna’s attention. Fulfilling his grandfather’s wish and fleeing Marko and his gang, Cane returns to the village at the time his grandfather prepares to marry Bosa, his longstanding love. While the grandfather stands up to Marko and his men, Cane and Jasna go to marry each other in the recently reconstructed church – the young take up the role of the old, even in the remotest of villages...
