36th FEST, 2008
The author of the award is Nikola Pesic, a young contemporary artist from Belgrade, with a longstanding exhibition career both in Serbia and abroad.
The Politika Award is the author’s replica of a larger sculpture of Pesic called “Erythrocyte”, which the artist exhibited on the October Saloon in 2005.
The statue is made of full polished brass, with a stainless steel stand.
The work represents a red blood corpuscle i.e. an erythrocyte, bringing fresh oxygen to the organism, restoring its strength and keeping it alive. The golden color of Pesic’s “Erythrocyte” hints that it is not merely a model of a type of blood cell, but that of a metaphor of spiritual renewal and catharsis.
In that way, the statue represents at the same time the creative personality, the works of which improve the “blood test” of the cultural and artistic “organism”.
The Jury shall announce its decision about the recipient of the award on a press conference to be held on Sunday, March 3rd, at 13h. |
